When Should I Engage a Solicitor?
This is up to you but engaging a solicitor can be very helpful especially if you are applying for a divorce and need to reach a financial settlement.
Sometimes you may have a solicitor before you attend mediation as it is he/she who refers you. However, you are free to appoint one whenever you like. At the end of mediation, a solicitor can be vital if you have agreed a financial settlement, whether or not you need to divorce.
You are free to consult with your solicitor at all stages throughout the mediation process. This is especially helpful if you are discussing arrangements for children where an application to court may be necessary, or a Consent Order for your divorce.
