Do I Need to Attend Mediation?

Meeting with a Mediator

Using the mediation process to make decisions for the future is voluntary, however, if you wish to access the courts it is compulsory to attend the initial MIAM.

You would meet with me first in a MIAM to assess whether mediation is the best option for you.  If it is not, I will issue you with a signed document which is inserted into the paperwork for your court application.

If you need to sort out arrangements children, you need a Form C100. If you need to reach a financial settlement you need a Form A.  Both forms are available by searching the HMCTS form finder HERE.

If you have a solicitor, he or she will guide you.

If you, your ex, and I agree mediation is suitable, I will arrange either a joint online mediation session or an online shuttle session.

Family Mediation is voluntary, therefore, it it is up to you.

However, if you wish to make an application to court either about arrangements for the children or to reach a financial settlement, attending a Mediation Information & Assessment Meeting, commonly known as a MIAM, is compulsory before making that application.
